History of David Ben-Gurion.

David Ben-Gurion was born Anthony Gerhard Rohlf January 30,1961. He was born at the old Hotel Dieu Hospital on Ontario street in St. Catharines, Ontario Canada. His Mother Molly Patricia Rohlf, formerly Simms, was under sedation when David was born. He was delivered by DR. Mackenzie, who had to use forceps to pull the little bugger out! David was a small baby.

He was named by his Dad, Uwe Gerhard Rohlf, on January 30, 1961. Patricia his mum wanted him to be called David but his Dad had other ideas and wanted a son named Anthony, later to adopt the name “Tony”. A good family life was to be had by all in the Rohlf family. In the early 1970’s Tony, his sister Lisa Jayne Rohlf and his Mum had to endure his first encounter with hardship as his Dad separated from his loving family on Christmas Day. It was Traumatic to the entire family. David was given a small box camera in 1969 by his Grand parents, Johanna Herta Elizabeth Radanz now Rohlf and John Gerhard Rohlf. He took many Photos as a young child and are still displayed in books at Davids’ home in St. Catharines, Ontario. When his father left David took up the slack and became the man of the household, even though he was still just a young boy David had a newspaper route in which he delivered 27 newspapers a day, later to expand to 127 – 137 newspapers a day. David had an income of roughly $20 dollars a week.

David and his sister Lisa enjoyed going to see movies at the old Towne Cinemas and Lincoln Theatres on a Saturday. His earliest recollections was the movie “Sleeper” with Woody Allen. David thought it was very funny in a strange way and thought it was a classic. Despite the Rohlf family losing a Father, they were happiest when he left.

David graduated Carleton Public School and attended Grantham High School in St. Catharines. He failed his last year of English and had to go Governor Simcoe High School for a semester. He Graduated in the early part of 1980.

He would run in his spare time in Combat boots and a “Flack” jacket. Despite the hot temperatures of Cyprus he endured and when completing his second tour of duty he ran over five hundred miles!!!!!!

After Cyprus, Private David was sent to CFB Penhold and was stationed with 754 Signal Squadron. He worked in the Bunker there. He excelled at his job and along with his Best friend was due for promotion. David did one more Tour of duty in the Golan Heights in 1986. All did not go well for him during his time there.

David returned to Canada minus a Corporal stripe and was discharged from the Canadian Armed Forces on July 13, 1987, with symptoms of Schizophrenia.

He returned to live with his Mum after the Military, but was never the same………..

His Mum died on December 27, 2017 at the St. Catharines General Hospital. He was alone after that.

David has had a lifetime to recover from his problems and is in the process, presently, to start his new business. He applied to change his adult name in full in August 2025. GOOD LUCK DAVID, AND ALL THE BEST TO YOU! He has taken over 30,000 photos alone in 2025! He eats up Memory cards on his Canon R5 Mark 2 like he was drinking water. He also takes photos with his Apple iPhone 16 & 17 and presently happiest when out and about his hometown St. Catharines wandering the streets taking photos.
